Finally got s shot at Gramps...

    ...Or should I say Caitin.

I've seen, what I think is this same buck, on camera for 3 years but I've never seen him in person.

He was the first buck I saw on camera after finding this lease. The antlers were just starting to grow and we noticed his pedicles were HUGE! As he grew he had a crazy rack with 3 brows on one side.

    This pic is from 2015.

He stayed in velvet most of the year from what I could tell. I finally saw him hard horned on camera in January that year.

I saw him less often but still fairly regularly last year. The rack size was smaller so I wasn't 100% it was the same deer but what are the odds of having 2 freak, stag type bucks with 3 brows on the left side at the same stand?

Fast forward to Saturday morning and my son and I were watching a few young bucks and waiting for a doe for him to shoot. All of a sudden "Gramps" jumps in the pen right by the blind.

I immediately told Luke "this one's mine". Haha. After checking him out for a few minutes I picked up the bow. He got In nice position broadside and I took the 20 yard shot. Shot looked good and he hauled outta there but I knew he didn't go far.

He's not real pretty but a unique old dude. I posted a "age this jawbone thread" and most said over 6.5 and some said 7.5plus. He was big bellied and had loose skin in 2015 so he's definitely old.

After recovery we checked and sure enough, no coins in the coin purse. It's weird though because I thought they wouldnt shed velvet or antlers at all. But I'm sure this is the same deer and he has obviously she's at some point.

Cool deer send those horns in to get freeze dried. The look and feel just like the day you shot him if you do.

That jawbone is a perfect example for a 6 1/2 year old with the complete wear of the 4th molar, and infundubulm triangle in the 3rd molar and downward slope in the third lingual cusp of the 6th molar... May be older, but for a typical wild non-protein supplemental fed deer, that is a classic 6 1/2 year old jawbone.

You've forgot more than I'll ever know about deer Charlie, but I had hundreds of pictures of him from 2015 and I have a hard time putting him at 4.5 that year. He hung out with a big 7 point and young 10 and appeared older than both.

Ditto. But technically the dished out tooth is the first molar, 4th tooth, as first 3 teeth are premolars.

Also, any tooth wear aging should be viewed with a little wiggle room, regardless of who's doing it. You can pull one of the center incisors and mail off for cementum anuli if you want, or just be content knowing your eunuch was old.

Awesome deer! I'd say that deer is 7.5+ on age.
