For example, if he's angry at you, for some unknown reason, like maybe you switched his food, he'll come crap on the bath mat......while you're in the shower....so you step in it when you get out. If he sees you give one of the other dogs something he didn't get, a treat, medicine, whatever, he'll pee in their bowl first chance he gets. He cows down to nothing and nobody. He bites, and when he bites other dogs, he goes for the eyes. He's such a jerk that his instigation finally got the better of my golden retriever, who wouldn't hurt a flea, and Rusty the Golden whipped his butt, costing me $750 to have the vet repair his broken hip. He's getting old, pushing 15, and when he dies, I'll NEVER own another Jerk Russell Terrier.

        Very observant there!

Seriously, I hear they are awesome dogs, and if we had gotten him as a puppy, I'm sure he'd be great. We adopted him as an adult dog, from my wife's boss at the time, who had rescued him from what we can only assume was an abusive home. They were getting rid of him because he bowed up to their Great Pyranese and cost them a bunch in vet bills.

We love our little JRT. She is something else. Although she isn't too fond of guns or gunfire, she is pretty awesome to have around. She loves our two girls to death.

Those were trapped. However, when she runs traps with us someone has to hold her so she doesn't fight them. I have turned her loose on a couple and a stray cat or 2. She even took down a chicken snake a few months ago.

She's a deadly ninja hidden in a fat couch potato suit

Awesome dogs but need to be able to run. I've always had labs and this is my first JRT. He's very smart and makes us laugh every day.

God bless you for putting up with the little psycho. To many others wouldn't have the heart, or the courage to do what you are doing - the right thing, in my opinion.

                  Regards,

                  Dave

We bought ours from Calvin (Lovemylegacy). It was my sons birthday present last September.

She's a little over a little year old and an absolute blast. Her and our lacy are best friends. She potty trained in less than 2 weeks. She knows when to turn the drive on.

In the house, she is very relaxed and always next to one of us. But if she see's anything camo come out or a rifle/bow being loaded, she is at the front door waiting. She rides with us everywhere and is always in the blind. If she see's something take a dirt nap, she's at the door of the blind waiting to go. We bought her a dogtra training collar and only used the vibrate mode on it. She learned the command "heel" within day's and until this day, will heel on command from wherever she is.

Great dog and tremendous drive when need be. Very loving to anyone that is invited in the house, but has come unglued a few times when friends have walked in w/o me greeting them. Never bitten anyone and absolutely loves kids.

I cant imagine a dog with more drive than a JR. I have a Shorty Jack and I think she is on cocaine half the time. She is good tracking dog and she loves to ride the kayak. She is great around kids, other than jumping up in the their face to lick them. I havent broke her of that yet. They are very hard headed, but great little dogs.

Just got my first JRT "Trixie" and she has been a great addition so far. The first week we had her at 6-7 weeks I thought this is the laziest most calm JRT I could have gotten. My how a week changes things. She has been to the lease already and comes to work with me most days. She has def opened up quite a bit and now goes 90 to nothing for about 15-20 minutes then naps for about 10-15. She has gotten quite feisty and when she is wound up nothing can stop her. She has been great with the family unless they wind her up too much then she is like the Tasmanian devil.
I got a deer tail from the processor last week and keep it in the freezer. I use it on a fishing pole and let her chase it for a while then I'll chunk it about 10 yrds. I then circle her down wind and she will pick up the trail. Incredible to see her work the wind and trail already at 7 weeks. She is going to be a good one.

Jrt's are great but you might look at a jagdterrier also.

They are used through out Africa because of their tracking abilities as well as being fearless. The ones I have been around in Africa were very friendly and had no problems with children. Each dog has it's own personality but I believe their puppy training is crucial to their personality as adult dogs. If I had a need for one I would not hesitate to get one.
