We are assuming that the limb exploded. It may have slowly given way and tore apart over a few seconds, that than all at once in a fraction of a second. It looks like the cracks started on the top side of the upper limbs near the pockets. This is where the limbs start to bend at rest. After starting to break, the lower half of the limbs tore away from the upper halves. It seems like that tearing action likely slowed the overall event time.
Then again, maybe a chupacabra drunk on monkey chow gnawed through 'em!
