13" rule longevity

I was super against it at first because it took a while to actually start seeing a decent number of legal bucks. It sucked a lot the first few years when we were having to let all the bucks grow but now I think it's good. I do wish we could get some kind of exemption so guys could shoot these bucks that are close but not quite 13". Maybe if a buck scores over 105 or something.

No way we can make a big enough impact on the genetics by shooting certain deer. Biggest advantage of AR is getting a year or two more age on them before they are killed. That also allows them to get smarter, thereby growing mature deer (5 and older), which tend to have larger antlers. I don't know if there are any plans to change, but I hope not. It is tougher hunting here than in the south, primarily because you just don't see as many animals. Part of that is population, part of that is the terrain, but there are areas of ET now with large numbers too.

I have seen quantum increases in quality bucks at my local place near Seguin since AR was imposed. I am totally in favor of it.

I do like the idea of the newest generation of hunters being taught that you don't/can't shoot the first buck you see (unless it's legal). That mentality has created the problem the 13" rule looks to fix.

Yes. I take a picture of every one I see.
And, a 3.5 yo spike in east Tx is pretty mature on a timber lease.

13" Rule working great in and around Lavaca cty,10 yrs ago if you saw or shot a 15" buck he was consider a monster,now a days its considered a young 3 yr old, I hope Antler Restrictions stay around for a LONGGGGGGG time.
