Cabelas Polar Cap is an awesome ice chest, will keep ice for at least a week in the back of my truck.. yes some ice does melt during that time frame but overall i am very happy with it.

Field and Stream did a cool review on 12 Ice Chests earlier this year, here is the link to that:

The waters that are in there now came out of the fridge. Cooler was chilled and stayed in the shade in the back of my truck. I put ice in the bottom of the cooler then the waters then another 20# of ice on top to that to the lid. Opened the cooler once a day to see how it was going from Sunday afternoon.

Yeah that's not very good. Last weekend went hunting still had about a dozen waters in it and plenty of ice going in it about 5times a day. It still had ice today after riding in bed of the truck all week when j grabbed a water out of it. So that's 6 days in the sun and still has ice. But it's a yeti. Not rtic. The rtic looks the same and I've said my next cooler will be an rtic to save cash

I don't know what to tell you then... sounds like it might be defective. The different brands are generally all pretty comparable. I have a Pelican and it keeps ice better than that. I would try customer service and see what they say.

I just talked to RTIC and they are going to swap it out for me.

I am not saying it is a better chest, but I have have an Igloo Max Cold that I have always been impressed with. It consistently will keep ice for my weekend lease trips. And yes, chilled drinks beforehand always help.

Also helps to make sure you are using good solid ice cubes. Sonic ice and some of the cheep auto ice makers tend to melt much quicker. Frozen water bottles prolong the ice retention.

From my experience, putting 8 gatorades warm, will melt 15 lbs of ice in a couple of hours.
I have an engel, and I stock it with warm drinks and 20 lbs of ice Monday, wed. and friday. I will add the warm drinks, and in about 30 mins I will pick up a 20 lb bag, drain the water, and add ice. 2 days later, the ice will be gone, but the water is still plenty cold, so I use it to precool the new drinks before adding the ice. I don't believe any of the high performance coolers will keep ice 10 days in the summer in Texas, unless you store them in a walk in cooler.

My Pelican 35 kept ice for over a week in 85+ weather in the back of my truck and that was with getting in and out of it for about 4 days of that week.

I have had a Yeti Roadie for a couple years and use it all the time and it holds ice for days. I just received my RTIC 45 and I noticed the lid doesn't fit near as tight as my smaller Yeti. Once the 2 straps are secure on the Yeti, it doesnt budge or creak, but the RTIC moves up and down a little when secure, and this has me worried about its ice holding ability.
Is this common with the RTIC 45?

Not that was without the “pre-chill” so I shrugged it off. Then we went on a hunt this past weekend and I pre-chilled it overnight and put fresh ice in it Friday morning. By Sunday afternoon it was all gone. Sunday afternoon I put in more ice and a few bottles of water and checked it once a day. Just checked it and the ice is gone and the water is cold but not like ice water cold which tells me the ice has been gone most of the day.

I got sucked into the hype of the roto coolers and so far I have to say I’m pretty disappointed. I know ice is going to melt and that it’s not a freezer but with all the hoopla I figured that after 5-6 days there would still be a little ice floating in the water.

How man times did you open that cooler in those three days?
