      I'm 100% lefty, and taking your particular situation into consideration, he's a 10 year old... He likely will not be hunting alone, so really the action of the rifle is no big issue one way or the other. Just treat it like a single shot. In fact that's how I taught my kids and others to shoot with good trigger control. When you take him to the range, YOU load the gun for him. On about the third shot, do not put a bullet in the chamber. Hand him an empty gun. Let him set it up and "shoot" it. That's a perfect way to see if he is flinching. AND it is the perfect way to show HIM what flinching is. Tell him when he's shooting he won't know whether the gun is loaded or not and to just aim and concentrate on a squeeze on the trigger so the gun does not move when the hammer falls... It will cure any flinching for him for life most likely. After a couple sessions like that, he will be so accustomed to not knowing whether or not the gun is actually going to fire, he'll automatically concentrate on trigger control.

      I had to shoot right handed guns of all types until I was old enough to buy my own guns... When I bought guns, I bought either ambidextrous or left handed guns. I'd recommend this for your son too. If you want to get a feel for how he will be using the gun, go to a gun store and ask to see a left handed bolt gun. Try working with it yourself right handed... You'll go get him a left handed gun. He's just starting out right now and his preference may not be a bolt gun. All that can come later. For now show him proper shooting technique. That can be done with ANY type of action.

        Im lefty in most everything in life, but I shoot a rifle and bow righty. Then for some reason, i shoot a pistol lefty. Shooting righty just felt right when i was little and ran around shooting at birds with my bb gun. It helps that i am right eye dominant.

          My 12 year old is a lefty and has only shot right handed rifles and shotguns. Maybe when he is older and ready for something to keep forever I'll help him get a lefty rifle.

            my oldest shoots right but uses his left eye, I think he's still trying to figure everything out. He's deadly with his gamo though!

              My son is a lefty, shoots a right hand bolt .243, a Remington 1100, and various other guns in right hand configuration. I have a good friend who is the same and he's a dang good shot.

                  I'm a lefty and learned this by shooting left eyed on my right arm and bustin my nose shooting a quail. That being said I've never in my life owned a left handed gun. All my rifles are right handed bolts and I bet I could reload just as fast as a right handed shooter. All my shotguns have been right handed models and the shell being ejected has never bothered me one bit. Only negative to shotguns is every now and then you catch some powder in your right eye after ejecting the spent shell. I've been doing this since I was about 6..

                  Now here's the funny part I shoot a pistol and a bow right handed! However, I can switch to my right eye with both the shotgun (Easy way to win some bets) and my rifle but I'm not as consistent with that eye.

                    I'm a lefty and I've shot both. I now own all left-handed guns (bolt actions and shotguns)

                      I don't think it matters if he's shooting a right-handed gun, lefty. But, as someone else mentioned, I'd test his eye dominance. Chances are, as a lefty, he'll be left eye dominant; but that's not a 'rule.' It's more important to be shooting with your dominant eye, IMO, than according to the hand you write with. For precision shooting it's always best to shoot with both eyes open. This is very difficult, if not impossible, to do if you're not using your dominant eye to look through the sights. He can learn to hold a rifle or shotgun on either should've, if need be. Determine eye dominance and then start from there.

                      Hope y'all have a great season!

                        No sir I shoot a right handed rifle as well as a right handed shotgun from the left side and have never had a problem.

                          I'm a lefty and owned one LH rifle which I could never get used to, so sold it. Make the first shot count--

                            I'm right handed and left eye dominant. Shoot everything left handed. All my rifles are right handed, and I actually prefer it that way. With a good rest or shooting sticks, I never have to take my eye off the target or finger off the trigger as I can work the action with the right hand. This comes in handy calling yotes when a double comes in or on a group of pigs where multiple shots are possible.

                              Lefty shooting a right handed rifle ?

                              UPDATE ::::
                              I took the boy to the range, started on the 50 yard targets then went to the 100. First time to ever shoot a rifle - Weatherby .243, he was never more than an inch from the bullseye. I was surprised and pleased.
                              Oh, and obviously he's left eye dominant.
