I forgot about Mercado Juarez. That place was decent.

You know, Fort Worth is Yankee territory.
You have to come at least as far south as downtown San Antonio to get REAL Tex-Mex.

This is another good one. Owned by the same family since the 40's. They started as a very small family run tortilla factory in their building out back (it's actually still used for that purpose. Then, the owner had a spot for a couple tables and decided to start selling tacos to the folks waiting in line for their tortillas. The building next door (and still their current location) was a machine shop originally. As the tortilla and taco business began to grow, they eventually made an offer to buy that machine shop to expand into what they are today.

The only reason I know this is because when I was a rookie, it was on my beat. I used to work a part time security gig there every Wed. night. I got to know the owner(son of the original owner) and his twin sisters who run the place. O e of the sisters was telling me their history one evening while I was working.

If a person was willing to make a drive to South Oak Cliff and go to Herrera's on Illinois he'd find some really, really good food. By far the best Tex-Mex i've ever had. But, sadly, not in Ft. Worth.

I may have to give the orange building a try.

Esperanza's though (next door and owned by the same folks) is great for breakfast.

Someone else said Molcajetes. I'd gave to put that one way up there on my list. I also like La Playa Maya. I teND to like the one on Hemphill better than the one on N. Main St.

I haven't been to Dallas since I took the wrong exit dropping a mare off in Frisco.
