I'm liking the Salomons. Who sells them? I'm sure it's too high end for Academy? BPS carry them?

Check out OBOZ. The very best Ive ever had on my foot. Top notch grade boot. Bought mine on Amazon. Try em. I promise they are more comfortable day one than any of my shoes or boots. I wear them almost every day.

I bought my first pair at REI. They were comfortable right out of the box, I ordered my backup pair from Amazon (also comfortable out of the box).

I bought a pair of Zamberlan Christallo GTX and wear them quite often. After 10 years of wear and tear, after a little Neatsfoot oil and a coat of Sno-Seal, they still look and feel almost new. I was bummed when I went to order another pair a few years ago and found that they don't make the Christallos anymore however, my disappointment was short-lived because I see now they've brought them back under a different name, Leopard GTX. They are pricey, but as mentioned here before, you get what you pay for.

Ain't no right answer. Go get fitted, every boot maker has their own little variances that work better for some than others. REI is a good place to start

I don.t know man, I was down in Brownsville on a dove hunt couple days ago, we stomped around in the mud for three days, I noticed that the sole of one of mine started separating from the leather, ended up giving them to my bird boy, pretty disappointing, I bought those boots in 2005.

Picked up the Salomon 4d gtx a few months ago for a colorado elk hunt. They were narrow at first but broke in fairly quick, about 5 miles or so. Hiked over 50 miles last week up 10k ft and down and these never once gave me issues. Through rocks, down and over fallen trees, up and down steep faces, and through water. Never really felt them on my feet they were so good. Walked through swampy grounds and they stayed dry. Hiked two days through snow and they were very warm and dry. My feet did sweat in them when temps were in 60s and we hike 10 miles, but that's expected. I did add a $2 set of padding to inside, just to give a bit softer feel.

I bought from amazon for 170. I saw them on sale at amazon for 140 the other day.

Lowa Tibet. Salomon fits great out of the box, but have quality issues if used a lot. If you are not training much, and you won't use them much, Salomon is what you would be happy with. If you're doing a lot of miles (100+), Lowa is the better boot.

sounds nuts but I went to softer laces and found them to snug the boot better and keep them tight. The laces with mine were literally as stiff as wire and the not got loose even if I double tied it.

That's a great idea. I did noticed how stiff the laces were.
