Live! Colorado Elk! Unit 80

Finishing my packing for my solo elk trip. Headed near South Fork, Co.tomorrow. I've got my nephew birthday party tomorrow an plan on leaving from there. Plan on sleeping in Raton tomorrow night and making it to set up camp around lunch time on Sunday. I know the area very well, but success rates are low. I'll give it my best anyways! I'm determined to shoot an Elk in this unit sooner or later. I hope I'm hitting it at the right time. I will be hunting fro a basecamp just off the FS road, but will carry a spike camp on my back in case I get into them. Service was pretty good a couple years ago (though elk sightings were low) so I'll keep it as updated as I can.

Good luck on your elk hunt! I've spent a lot of time in that area in the summers. That's my fly fishing stomping grounds.

Summitville and Beaver Creek reservoir are normal visits for us all the way into Platoro.

Can't wait to read about your hunt.
