Back in 2012 I hunted Unit 21 in Wyoming. We put in for the draw, but unit 21usually has leftover tags and good access to public land. We didn't draw, but purchased leftover tags the day they became available; they had plenty. I think the buck tag ran in the $270s if I remember correctly. The GAS is the biggest expense and, depending on the load you're pulling, could run you upwards of a $500 gas bill EASY. We got about 6 guys together, convoyed a couple of trucks and trailers with 4x4s, split the gas bill 6 ways at every stop, split the camp food cost, etc... If I had to guess what it cost me for that scenario, I'd say I spent a total of about $1,000.00.

As long as you have all/most of the gear you need for a DIY CO trip, it can be done for 1K and under. I'm heading to hunt mule deer in CO in November. I'd have to go back and look but I think the tag and fees ran me $384 (or somewhere around there. Add $25 for a 4-wheeler tag and that pus it $409. All I have left is the gas and food bill when the time comes. Hopefully gas will stay cheap until then. If it does, my share of the gas bill will be about $300 and my share of the food should be around $50-$60. I think I'll be able to keep it under $1,000 this year.

I know this thread is old but figured I'd update since I just got back. Splitting fuel and room expenses it came out to about $900 per man. The group had told me to plan on about $1,500. That also included fishing licenses and some fat rainbow trout after we all tagged out.
