This is who I would recommend as well.

A lot of these guys are really expensive. If I spend $8000+ on a hunt then I'm going to Africa lol. Compass West seems to be the ticket.

Me personally would never book a hunt based on the price of the hunt, especially if it was lower than any other outfitter you checked on. I would want to check with folks that hunted with this outfit that were both successful and unsuccessful and based on what I heard and what I researched, then I would book. I have worked for an outfitter and saw him actually lie outright to folks just to get their business, collect their money the night before the hunt and then leave and let me have to deal with the left over carnage when the hunt did not pan out like he described. Researched and words from hunters both positive and negative would be my criteria for who I booked with.
There are a lot of good outfitters and a lot of bad outfitters and a lot that you never know. You can see that above with one person saying they had a great experience and one that said stay away from that outfitter. Buyer beware.

I will tell you this about elk hunting; a lot depends on the weather period and an outfitter cannot control that.
Good luck with your booking and I truly hope you are successful.

It's a gun hunt, just hunt where there are lots of elk. You can be fat and drunk and still kill them with ease. Milligan Brand is a good bet.

I've been reading and searching about compass west and they come highly recommended everywhere I've seen.

I also look at guys trying to get top dollar because what it is. Everybody who's quality seems to be about $4000-5500 if you draw a tag. $7000-15,000 for a landowner hunt including permit. CW came in at 4250 for 2x1 and 4950 for 1x1. That's right along the lines of everyone else. I can't afford an $8000 elk hunt. If I could I'd have bought the hunt from Brosigs today. $7500 on a ranch bordering the Mescalero reservation. I'd be about $8200 in before gas. But compass west kills some **** fine bulls at half the price. The draw may take a few years....ill keep saving and if I don't draw I'll jump on a LO permit when I have the funds. I will not use a cheap *** no name outfitter. I want to kill a GOOD bull not just any elk. I've got lots of time to decide. Thanks for the references so far!! Also, I do take donations

Folsom Outfitters - Kyle Bell - I stopped in to visit with Kyle, LeVonne and Ben this past week. They are seeing plenty of good Bulls. You will have a great hunt. Tell them Bruce said hi.

If you search my name and elk you can find a few of my past hunts with Folsom Outfitters.

High Country Outfitters - Chris Moehring is another good one. I know as of yesterday Chris still had a rifle hunt or two available this year.

I have hunted with both of these guys several times. Good people and good friends.

My wife and I actually left Folsom outfitters Monday morning to come home from our pronghorn hunt.

If you have done your research on an outfit and feel comfortable with them, then you should be good to go especially if you are willing to wait to draw a permit to ease the cost of a hunt. That is the biggest difference, cost of a private land owner permit.

Yes sir. I have a bit better chance at drawing through an outfitter but we will see.

That is good to hear! I read all of your hunt threads with them and is mostly why I chose to hunt with them. Can't wait!

Anybody know anything about Steves outdoor adventures and their elk hunts on private land in Colorado? A freind of a freind referred them.
