name the critter that ripped up this cedar tree

What critter caused this tree damage at my neighbors house. It is in Far NW Travis county, just south of Liberty Hill.

I went over and looked at the tree. Several of the trunks were stripped and torn up. There only seemed to be one tree and no others.

I checked my trail cam about 50 yards away...nada, Does not look to be consistent with rubbing off velvet.

ideas? I got some other pictures, but they are all about the same.

If not a deer check the pasture for Bulls, for some reason the cedar is an aphrodisiac for bovines.

I looked and did not see taletale signs. Some of the cedar strips were found 20' away from the tree,

                      pretty bizarre.

no livestock out here. there are a few pigs though

Man that looks a little beyond a deer. But If your saying no cattle than that is the only answer in that county aside from human.

I have seen porcupines do that.

I started with nothing and still have half of it left.

this one tree was cleaned up. No small branches around. tree was easily accessible . did see a few gouge marks. here and there.

maybe a coon out for revenge?
