    Low fence Drop tine Deer.

We got on a new lease this year and had a pretty good surprise on camera. Would you shoot or pass this guy. I think he is plenty mature, just wondering how strong the gene can be and if it will be passed on.

I'd shoot he's already passed on what he needs to.

That's awesome. We had our first drop tine on camera last year. He was actually a double drop. Nobody saw him while hunting so we hope he's still around!

Kinda looks like the one I got last years droptine. I know he was at least 6.5. Not very big but had plenty of character. 18" wide with a 7" drop tineClick image for larger version

He can definitely pass the drop tine gene, and no doubt has.

Over the years I've seen probably 30 or so drop tine bucks. I can only remember one that had the same drop tines every year. A lot of the others would have a drop one year and not the next. No rhyme or reason when it comes to drops. I have noticed that 7.5 year old and older tend to have more drops. Wet years also produce more drops. If you like him shoot him as he probably won't have it next year.

We had one on camera last year. Very Much like that deer.
We finally saw him on the hoof and he aged 7.5 by tooth wear.
I was way off aging him at 5.5. My 7th year on that propert and never saw a drop before.

Shoot if you think he's mature. Just got pic of this guy on our farm when checking cameras today. Not terribly long but a drop is a drop. He's safe for this year as he's not quite ready to hunt. Very cool none the less...

Yes, our place is low fence, free range.
