Never really thought about this before.

A buddy of mine and I were talking about taxidermy and looking at some of the different turkey beards and spurs and rattlesnake rattles I've got over the years. He asked me "Why do we keep stuff like that?" I couldn't really answer that question. I like mounts, rattlesnake skins, turkey fan mounts,European mounts, skulls and hides off of all sorts of critters. But why?.....Nobody but me ever pays attention to it and it takes up room. I just like that kind of stuff is the only good reason I had. If you really think about it is it weird to have alot of dead animals in your house?lol.....I guess I never have given it much thought. To some people I guess it probably is weird.

You like it because it's who you are, what you like to do, and reminds you of the experience(s) you had when acquiring them.

Mounts and such, are just reminders for each person. But they can make for conversation too.

Every antler, beard, rattle, skull, mount is a memory. Every time I look at those things I can remember the whole story from how I came across them in extreme detail. That's worth more to me that their combined weight in gold.

You look at em . Each one preserves a memory. More fun to look at than a picture most times .

It's a trophy to remind you of that hunt.

I had whitetails and African plains game in my house. I got rid of all of it.

It was taking up space, and frankly, it was a waste of money. I can appreciate nice taxidermy but I probbaly won't ever pay to mount anything else.

I had a girlfriend ask me that once, I got rid of that girlfriend.
Some people have pictures of flowers on their walls. I prefer dead animals

Every time I see my mount from last year it brings me joy and replays all the emotion of that day. I think mounting animals is a very good way to honor them and to honor God for things he has given us.

Memories made is a good explanation for it. I have alot of stuff that some people look at and think "Why would you have that?" But I can go back and look at those things and tell you exactly when and where I got it. My problem is I take something to the taxidermist and think "I need another one of those." after I get it back. Except bigger,a different color, different species and the list goes on and on. I'm gonna mess around one of these days and run out of places to put all that stuff.

Take a listen to Step Inside This House by Lyle Lovett - written by the late great Guy Clark. We keep things to remind us otherwise the memories and experiences will just slip away.

Looks to me like you are missing some heads from Africa. Don't stop now.
