I've been following them since way before they came out on television. We have VHS tapes of Phil explaining ducks and their calling. The absolute best advice I can give is to find their earliest tapes and study them. We cut our duck hunting teeth on these tapes and have killed a ton of birds following his instruction. As far as finding someone to instruct, I can't help but have a movie night and spend time watching these guys hunt. You'll be a better hunter/caller for it. I still have an old wooden classic commander I carry in my car and practice with it while going down the road. Whatever you do, just remember...there are duck callers and then there are duck killers.

I make calls (Simsoutdoors.com) and the thing that is most important to learn is how to do a really good just simple quack. The rest will come after that. Everyone wants to be able to roll a feed call and hail call all the time and it's just not needed when everything is set up right. A lot of the most important aspects of calling isn't with the actual sound it has a lot to do with how the call is tuned and set up for each individual person and knowing when not to call.
I work with ducks unlimited chapters around the state mainly our (a&m) chapter with donations of calls and knives if you're interested send a pm with contact info and when your banquet is and I'll see if I can help out other college students.
