Free range deer get no love!

This is not an anti genetic deer post. I actually love to look at those monsters! However it seems that with how big they have gotten these days a free range trophy hardly gets any attention. I had a client in my man cave comment on an axis I recently shot and had European mounted. He said man that's a nice one! I told him he almost bumped his head on a 209" non typical free range wt that was bow killed and said nothing!

I always keep that factor in mind when judging trophies. I have a small place and hunt only free range deer on it. Not because Im some purist, that's what I have access to. If some one showed me a 250, 14 point, protein packed pen raised deer trophy I would honestly be more impressed with a wild, free range buck of a much much smaller score to be a better trophy.

I'm all free range, and I when I kill anything with a bow, doe, 120, 140, you better believe it's a dang trophy to me! Lol

He's on the right. Has a few tines going backwards along his skull you can't see in pic. Actually 208 7/8

Deer that were raised in a pen do not interest me. However, a large high fenced ranch with native deer is a different matter. Free range deer on large or small properties are still another matter. Pen raised bucks are nice to look at, but I'm not interested in killing one. Just my opinion.

What about native/breeder crosses born in a high fence?

Free range is the ONLY thing that tickles my fancy. Like others have said, I enjoy looking at big, high fence bucks. But when it comes to hunting for me, free range is the most impressive.

Not to hijack your thread DDT, but I believe I have been jinxed with a pig curse at my lease since we spoke about it this spring.

Interested in doing some pig hunting Labor Day weekend?

You didn't start this thread so you could get asked about and post pictures of your 208 7/8" free range buck now, did you?
