I'll try this and regular alfalfa.

Hopefully the deer will leave it alone otherwise I'd have to put out $500 worth so the axis would have a chance. LOL

We use some kind of sweet alfalfa on the ranch and it seems to work pretty well

My experience feeding them is that when its green, they leave most anything you feed hem alone and are very sporadic in visiting the feeders. Once it dries up then anything mentioned above works.

Like people stated above. Any sweet feed with molasses in it and alfalfa are the key. The low fence axis I hunt don't like chaffhaye. We have killed 5 bucks in the last two weeks all on horse and mule sweet feed and busted watermelons. They don't eat the corn unless that is all there is.

Used alfalfa in rocksprings with great success. They preferred it over corn.

A green field is best if you can find one

another thing you can do is build a alfalfa bale feeder. It is simpler than it sounds. I have one at my lease I can bring back this weekend if you want it. The goats will get anything I put out, out there.

I've been told Axis love cotton seed hulls! Has anyone tried it? Not sure the delivery method...

They like whole cottonseed. Doubt you'd have luck feeding just the hulls.

Let's don't make this any more difficult than it has to be.

Put up a corn feeder, sling corn, kill axis.

I have had corn feeders going non stop. Too many deer and hogs waiting for them to go off. So I was sort of looking for something that won't get devoured by the whitetail.
