    Questions on Axis deer

Do they eat and like to eat the same things as whitetail?

I just saw a HUGE axis buck on my ranch as I was leaving. Wondering if there's something they love to eat I can put out or start growing. Would love to see more of them.

They will eat corn, alfalfa and protein as well. People swear by chaffhaye but it all goes sour on our place.

Throw out some alfalfa Tim! Brings them in, good luck and go get him!

From what I understand they are more of a grazing animal and like alfalfa. I've never killed one, so I'm just regurgitating what I have read.

Alfalfa has always worked for us.

My experience watching them from a stand, is they eat alfalfa and corn with equal effort--

Not trying to start a different discussion on this thread, but what is this "sweet feed" stuff that people on here talk about? A guy on my hunting lease said he uses it, but I've never heard of the stuff. Is it like the horse and mule feed that is called Sweet Treat that has molasses infused in it, or is it something different?

In my experience, Axis prefer grass if it is available, over corn. They are grazers , not browsers. In the lean winter months when everything is brown they come to corn because that is what is available. At our Axis honey hole we keep feeders filled with corn and alfalfa.

Put out several white salt blocks. They realy like it at my lease...but then again, so do the cows, horses and just about all other critters.
