Like said above they are grazers not browsers. So they eat more what a cow prefers than a whitetail. They love Alfalfa. With everything as dry as it is / well was (most grass is brown and dried up) they love to come up in our yard and eat the tall green grass where the aerobic system sprays.

I just saw a HUGE axis buck on my ranch as I was leaving. Wondering if there's something they love to eat I can put out or start growing. Would love to see more of them.
I see you hunt in San Saba. We are on the South end of San Saba County near Cherokee and Pontotoc. Never seen any in out part of the county...but would love to start seeing some! What part of the county are you?

Is it like the horse and mule feed that is called Sweet Treat that has molasses infused in it, or is it something different?

              Same thing you feed horse/mule

I owe you an Axis, you ready to come hunt this one?
I'll try a few salt blocks.

You guys who use alfalfa, you buy the square bales? Where do you buy them, just any feed store? And is it just regular alfalfa? I looked online and saw a lot of varieties. I've never used anything but corn so new to this.

Yes just any feed store, well every one I've been to. And just a square bale, we always pull it apart and put the little sections out and spread it out. Or put it in a hay feeder

If you need help controlling the Axis population shoot me a PM. I will come help thin the heard and give advice for feeding at the same time.

Chaffhaye works like crazy at my place 75% of the time. The other 25% of the time they walk right past it. They are way more finicky than whitetails.

My only suggestion is to get the leafiest alfalfa you can. Some of it can be a bunch of stems they don't seem to eat.

Like mentioned an axis is a grazer as opposed to a browser (whitetail). Yes regular alfalfa, square or round bales whichever you find. They will eat the heck out of corn and protein as well.
