Slightly bulged shells causing problem in my new shotgun

I took my new O/U out to the lease to try it out. I still have a case of these

left over from last year so I took a few boxes along. When I loaded it for the first time I noticed the shells went in a bit tight and then the action wouldn't close because the brass on the bottom shell hit the face of the receiver

I could only close it if I pushed on the bottom shell with my thumb. As you can imagine I was really chapped, thinking my new gun was defective until my buddy tried the shells in his O/U and the same thing happened. That's when we figured out the shells all had a slight bulge right at the crimp and the ejectors could not pull it in as you close the action. Luckily my buddy had another brand of shells and my gun performed flawlessly for 100 rounds. I tried a shell from every box in the case and all had that bulge. I have been shooting those Remington shells for years and they fit fine in my 20 year old Red Label. Why would they be tight in my Beretta? Could the bulge be caused by heat? The case of shells has been stored in a hot garage. I guess I need to buy a different brand of shell...

Had the same thing happen in my O/U, ran the bad shells through my pump gun with no problems. I suppose it could be heat since I keep my shells in the garage too.

Was anything stacked on top of them? I've fired shells like that before, and other than the inconvenience of having to push them in the chamber, they were fine. They extracted and ejected fine after firing. Heat was probably the culprit.

Probably a manufacturing defect in that batch of shells.

I'm no expert but guessing heat on the shells and a tighter tolerance on you o/u

And get ready to clean your gun. Rios are dirty but decent.

My choice in order. Win AA, Rem STS, Kemen, Fiocchi .

We use about 20- 30 cases a year & I am the cleaner of the guns.

AA simply cannot be beat. I had the same issue with the sure shots

That's a great trick. I'll give you $20 for for 1 box of the bulged shells.

I don't notice any difference in cleaning. But the rios, hands down knock more birds down than the remingtons. My Weatherby eats them like skittles! To each his own.

Ive fired thousands of rems. The 1 box of rios I bought wouldnt eject out of 3 out of 4 guns. My benelli sbe2, benelli nova, old old winchester, but would eject out of some other gun I dont recall. Gave that case away cheap and back to rems.

I bet it was the heat. I am shooting rems from a couple years ago I bought when they were still $50 a case and they fire fine. But I keep mine in the house.

Doesn't matter....shoot what runs best in your gun. For me it was knocking birds down that made me switch to rios. All I shoot is 20ga.
