WE got chickens in the spring..

    These are the first eggs.

The first one I cracked was a double!!

So these only cost me about $100 each.

They are worth a whole lot more than store bought but maybe not that much

But at least you know they're fresh!

Love me some fresh farm eggs. Amazing how they taste so much better than store eggs.

Went through that last year. You will recoup that investment over time. We have 4 hens and average 3 eggs a day working on expanding our coop to add two more hens

Totally worth it for fresh eggs. I'm lucky. I have a neighbor that gives me fresh eggs so I have no expense.

We bought 16 back in the spring, we have 13 hens and a rooster left thanks to a hawk, they should start laying any day now.

I love fresh eggs. Beats the store bought by a long ways.

We are in the same boat. Very expensive eggs. I also went a little overboard building the coop.

What are you feeding? That is a nice shade of orange.

Our chickens are laying like crazy. I've been hard boiling a dozen a week and taking a couple to work with me every day. Good stuff!

That happens a lot with newly laying hens. My mom had one once that laid an egg inside an egg. Freaky stuff.

All you need is high protein and high calcium. We've jumped from purina layena, to other stuff and now featherfixer. Feed goes way down if you let them free range part or all day

Not sure we will try free range

Can't say I blame you. Parents have poo all over the place, but they have like 50 birds. Just a few wouldn't be near as bad, and now that we got the yotes at bay, we aren't losing any. Honestly I wish they were losing some, 50 is 45 too many.
