    Craig's list scam stories

Let's hear you Craig's list stories about people trying to scam you ---- this should be good.

    Here is mine so far.
This morning I placed an ad on CL and it wasn't 30 minutes I get a text form area code 509 at 6:41 AM. That area code is in Washington state, that means its 4:41 out there, I guess the scammers have to start early. I reply back to them that this a local sale only and that 509 is not local. After I sent my reply I get the exact same text from the same number asking "is this still for sale" I guess they didn't understand my message

Then I get another text from an 817 number which would be a local number asking "is this still for sale" and they give me a name so this one looks legit. I reply "yes" they reply "Ok what is the address to schedule a pick up and do you have a paypal account to receive payment" I reply it will be cash only and if you are not the person picking up the item, then I will pass.

I kid you not, while I was making this post I get another text from area code 863 in Florida saying they can't come pick it up due to work and will arrange for pick up and for me to give them my paypal account for payment, yea like that is going to happen I am not even going to reply to this goober.

Just got another text from Ohio, I am starting to regret this ad

    Lets hear your stories

IF I sell on Craigslist I only do local cash deals. There are to many hackers and scammers on there.

I sold an old cell phone on Craigslist. I was selling for $100, a person using what I assumed to be a fake, nearly naked picture of a women e mailed me saying the would pay $250 for the phone. They said they sent the money and attached a poorly edited PayPal page saying the money was transferred. They asked me to mail the phone to an out of state address since they sent the money. I told them I didn't see the money on my end. They said they would send another $250, again, never saw it. They told me they were going to report me to PayPal for theft. I told them to go ahead. Lol, it was clearly a scam.

I just went back and added this to my ad "This is a local sale only and if you are not in the DFW area and are not paying in cash, then this is not for you"
          Maybe that will help

I probably should NOT share this, but it was funny after time past. about 8 years ago, found a Craigslist ad for a lease, I call the guy and get some quick details. Sounds good, I talk with my brother and dad and we agree to say we are really interested. Few days later I talk to the guy again. He explains his folks past away, he was an only child with lots of medical issues. He never spent time at the ranch because of medical issues. He needed some folks that could also maintain the place, fences if any damage, etc. He was real nervous about finding the right hunters he could trust, he never dealt with this, his dad did all the leasing to hunters. well...1-2 more conversations over the week....turns out he's lookin for rugged manly man to "plow his fields" I guess you could say.

I ain't looked for a deer lease on Craigslist again!! And this was NOT a dumbarse move like in the movie horrible bosses....he posted this in land sale and lease section. So since then a few friends like to tell their version of me meeting a guy I met on Craigslist. Wife n 2 kids here! I ain't playin pick-up-sticks with my cheeks!!

Maybe I'm sharin too much with y'all......

I guess they do not have a grasp on the English language.
That's a total of 5 texts in less that an hour and a half and I am thinking they are all scammers

Someone needs to start a non-profit that does nothing but target scammers...then breaks their legs (or something good like that). Needs to be posted video once done...Or maybe a TV show. I'd donate..plus watch the show for sure.

I'll do it, but first I'll need you to cash a check I have from my inheritance for me... I've lost my ID in the river (different river than where I lost my guns) and I cant cash it.
If you wouldn't mind depositing it into your account and sending me a money order for 90% of it , I'll give you 10% for helping me out.
Then I'll go get those scammers!
                    lets do this!

I've bought and sold numerous vehicles, motorcycles and other items on Craigslist over the years and dealt with a few scam attempts but not many. I like jacking with them...they usually don't have much of a sense of humor btw.... I do the same thing to people calling me on my cell phone to sell me something or tell me that I won a cruise.

when i get a text or email asking me if i'll ship upon receipt of payment, i usually respond with something like "no thanks, local pickup, cash only, no shipping, just remember you will stand in judgement one day for your thieving actions so you may want to reconsider your career choice."

I had a bad transaction with an african man from europe who sent me a check from michigan for a dirtbike back in 2003 and nearly screwed up my credit for 7 years...and my bank cleared the check only to tell me later that it was a fake, after they gave the money...so i don't like these liars.

Ive sold many things on craigslist and never had any problems. Recently sold a car.

                          1. Never put your phone number in the ad.
                          2. I always like to meet in public places
                          3. Cash only and meet at the bank for more expensive items
