This is the way to do it.

I found mine on Craigslist at a junk yard in Sinton. I was looking for the bleacher planks to build a bowfishing deck on my boat. While I was loading it I noticed my boards were getting pretty rotten, so I bought enough to do the boat deck and the trailer. They had a whole stadium tore down. Don't know if the guy still has any. He said if it did not sell soon, he was going to chop it up.

Just did this on a 16'. Those wet boards bend a ton

I'll second the aluminum planks. Just be careful if loading a mower or buggie when wet or with muddy tires. Gets a little rodeoish.

Can you bend a 12' like vid shows bending a 16'?

One of my boards in the middle of the deck is rotted out but the rest look fine.

They also shrink a bunch, 1/2" or more. I set them out in the sun for a couple weeks to shrink them first.

                        C purlin is another option.

I bet if you look at the front that is a piece of flat bar welded every 4-6" to hold down the boards, this is the piece you want to grind out because it is not structural like angle in the back.

I wish I had the time to let them dry, because I hate having significant sized gaps between boards.

Since I don't have easy access to a welder what about cutting a portion of the front channel just wide enough to insert a board. I should then be able to insert the board in the same location and work them out toward the edges. I could then bolt down the board where I cut the metal. Sound doable?

I've built a few and own a few. This is just standard. I don't know what all these other guys are talking about! What you just said is exactly how it's supposed to work.

Might just put them in place without screwing them down to let them shrink then tighten them up and add a spacer along one edge.
