    My struggle with alcoholism

I've been away from the green screen for a couple weeks, because I made a huge decision for my life and my family.

Since college, I have been a drinker. At times, it was to get drunk, but mostly it was just because I enjoy alcohol. When my son was born, I decided to cut back and be more responsible. I was able to drink casually with buddies, have a few beers while I mowed the yard, pour a stiff drink to enjoy at night, etc. What I didn't realize was the chemical dependency that I had developed.

I tried to quit by myself several times in the last two years, but would start developing the standard withdrawel symptoms. So, then I also drank to avoid the symptoms. This is when I realized something was really wrong.

I asked God for help almost daily, and his voice overwhelmingly (almost shouting at me) was to get help. July 5th, I finally listened. I admitted myself to an inpatient detox program and am now healthier.

I know the battle is not over, but this new life is exciting. I have a great support group of family and friends, and am working out what other support I may need now.

God is good. Listen to him when you ask him something.

If you have questions about the help I recieved, feel free to pm. Have a great weekend, yall!

    Good for you!

Do you have a place of support where you can learn from the experience strength and hope of others who have walked this path?

Glad you recognized your problem before it ruined your life, recognized you needed help, and took that difficult step to actually get the help.

Best of luck to you. I know many like you who have succeeded in breaking the cycle and finding fulfillment in sobriety- and helping others in the process.

Very few people have the ability to self reflect and fix their own problems, you my brother are a rare breed.
