All joking aside... It is a serious concern. The world has changed to the point where you have to carry your gun everywhere you go.

I have mixed feelings, especially if it was my daughter.

Heck yeah, with a bit of Muay Thai cross training for stand up self defense. Not to mention good martial arts training will be a positive influence on her discipline and mastery over self for her track endeavors.

#1 thing I would advise her is not to run with ear buds in, she can't compete with them, so why train with them. They compromise your ability to sense an attacker.

If she is a fledgling track superstar she should have the flight part of the fight or flight equation pretty well covered.

A Taser is just about useless. I watched a trainer take the taser 10 out of 10 times from women. The attacker is just way to close. Pepper spay was another story. The instructor was not able to even get close and was blinded and could not continue the attack. It was pretty impressive.

A knife and pepper pray are really just about the only valid non-gun self defense tools. Those stupid pepper guns are a joke.

Taser distance, is close to "normal" pistol distance. Downer with taser though, heavy clothes do effect it.

Spray would be the best, while I can fight through most of it. I wouldn't be able to catch anyone actually running from me. Wind does effect it, so try to get something with a concentrated stream

Freeze+P+ pepper spray, as an officer and pepper spray instructor I found it to be 99% effective in stopping any aggressive actions.

1%..I saw a deputy take 10 sec spray in the face from 6 inches and then run 25 yards and shoot the X out of a target. It does NOT work on everyone.

Me? I couldn't run 10 feet after being sprayed or see to hit a barn...from the inside!!!

EVERY instance of our officer using it, it worked like a charm. Knocked most of the folks off their feet.

I would definitely not advise the taser. As has been stated on here you have to be too close and they aren't very reliable. Pepper spray would be better than nothing but it is possible to fight thru that also. Just depends how dedicated the bad guy is.

I have an older kimber, oc gas pistol. Have not had to use it but I believe it will work great.
