    Non Lethal Self Defense Options

I have a good friend who has a young daughter who is a fledgling track superstar. She wants to start running before sun up but her mom is worried about self defense. This young lady is very familiar with firearms, use, safety and such. However, she is too young to get her own LTC permit.

Mom has been doing some research and come up with this option.

Or this one which is the same but not rebranded.

My concern is this: I'm not sure I would recommend her to have a concealed gun like this (even though it is a paintball gun) because I'm not sure of the law on concealing a gun like this.

Any help on the laws for gun replicas would help.

Second, I also don't like the idea of needing to hit the assailant in the face or upper chest with a paintball. Not that I think she couldn't do it, but with pepper spray options there is less chance of missing, although the assailant would need to be closer before she could deploy the weapon.

And C, She is a little skinny rail of a teenage girl and actually concealing it might be a problem while she is running.

So any help on a different non lethal weapon that uses pepper spray or CS Gas is appreciated.

Another option would be Tasers or stun guns/batons. I have researched a little bit in this area but I am not real up to speed. If these are a viable alternative I would like to see what models you would recommend.

Those "guns" are waaaay to bulky.

I would advise pepper spray. They make a can a little bigger than a tube of Chapstick that will spray 10-15 feet.

Get a Pepper Spray gun. It shoots a nasty stream out to 20 - 30ft. Once the assailant gets a face full of that crap, they can't see, they can't hardly breath and running away is easy enough to do. The spray gun is powerful enough to stream out well enough to not have tons of blow back. It's very directed.

Even running away from an assailant, you can spry a trail behind, further screwing up their airways as the give chase.

I second a can of pepper spray. Something in the several million SHU's and with a stream. That will usually take an assailants breath away and blind them long enough for a runner to escape if not longer. As an LE I've been sprayed numerous times and it's never been easy to chase someone down after.

Kimber pepper blaster. A buddy of mine carries one when he's doing business in Mexico.

Option 2 would be a fixed blade knife, I don't remember the legality of it in TX though

Are there any running clubs in down?

Those are crap, I've used one and it is very limited.

The knife may be useful as a last resort weapon, but it is too close for a woman to engage as a primary weapon.

A good suggestion but not a real option for her. She is training for the Jr. Olympics and is on a very tough regimen, and she bounces from mom to dad's house.

Thus the need for defense weapons for a solo, teenage girl runner.

What about older men like me?
