Axis are mainly grazing animals which because of this they have larger stomachs which causes their vitals to sit farther forward in their chest cavity. Shoot straight through the shoulder and quartering away if possible.
Another tip- if you are stalking them be very aware of any other axis in the vicinity of your target critter. They can bust you quick and sometimes when those herds get to 30-40 animals, you have to pay attention to who is watching you.
When not disturbed, Axis can and will stick to a pretty consistent pattern for a few weeks at a time. If you often see them feeding in a certain pasture, toss out some hand corn and/or alfalfa and set up so they feed into you.Last edited by Patton; 06-21-2016, 08:17 AM.

Axis deer are grazers and love to graze in open fields at night this time of year. I like to hunt the edges of open fields right now. They will stage or start to come out right at dark. I would do some scouting and find out where they are coming out at night. Use a spotlight if you need to. Also, this is about the best time to catch them rutting...

Went this Saturday to top off my corn feeder and when I lowered my barrel of winch up feeder, these two guys popped out 40 yards away and waited till I left to come get a snack! I didn't have a bow or rifle with me except my cell phone so I snapped a quick pic Lol They really love the sweet feed! It's like crack to them! Going to start feeding alfalfa and sweet feed at my other sets.
