    Axis deer bowhunting tips

I'm in hot pursuit of axis on my new lease but really don't know much about them. Any advice would be great.

    I'm a ten pointer!

Just noticed I have jumped from an 8 to a 10 pointer!

Hunt bait/water where axis are, shoot axis in vitals, retrieve axis.

They are quite hard to pattern, especially now when conditions are pretty green most places. Best time to hunt feed is when/where it's dry. Try hunting over a water source first feed second. Good luck.

Ive noticed a big increase in axis numbers visiting one of my feeders since I started putting out sweet feed and alfalfa. Went this Saturday to top off my corn feeder and when I lowered my barrel of winch up feeder, these two guys popped out 40 yards away and waited till I left to come get a snack! I didn't have a bow or rifle with me except my cell phone so I snapped a quick pic Lol They really love the sweet feed! It's like crack to them! Going to start feeding alfalfa and sweet feed at my other sets.

Hunt them over water. Also the vitals in an axis are a lot further forward than a whitetail. Shoot them dead center in the shoulder. If you shoot them in the crease.... You are in the gut.

The shoulder blade on an Axis is more forward than a whitetail. They are like African game with the vitals being tucked in further up the shoulder. This was my shot last year from an elevated tripod that took out the top of the heart.Rage Extreme broadhead. He piled up around 40 yards.

I hunt Axis the same way I hunt WT. they do like the sweet stuff though. Safe hunting.

I guess they sell bales of this at feed stores in the hill country?

Like said above alfalfa, sweet feed and a water source are all good. Honestly I have had better luck setting up away from feeders and just hand feeding. Axis are mainly grazing animals which because of this they have larger stomachs which causes their vitals to sit farther forward in their chest cavity. Shoot straight through the shoulder and quartering away if possible.
