When I purchased mine, they advised using cottonseed oil....said it doesn't hold the flavors if cooking different items...I buy cheapest because I rarely reuse.

I have a 4 gal, and love the size. Only dealing with one jug of grease at a time is nice. I use a 1 gal paint strainer sack to filter my grease after use.

I went to tractor supply and bought a spray rig filter and plumbed it in on the back of mine so when draining the oil it goes through a really fine mesh SS screen works great just have to let it cool down first since the filter housing is plastic.

I have the 4 gallon model as well. Worth every penny. Every good Friday we fry fish for 100-150 people and 2 of them make short work of it.

Dad got a 4 gallon for fathers day and I cooked with it yesterday. Made short work of what normally would of taken a couple of hours.

I've got the 4 gallon and like everyone else has said, it's worth every single penny! I'm not trying to talk you out of the 6 gallon but I know two guys who bought the 6 gallon and sold it to buy the 4 gallon. They both said the oil cost and the heat up time it took to get the oil hot weren't worth it to cook 1 or 2 turkeys a year. Again, if you are really going to cook some turkeys it will be worth it, but prob not if you just want to use it at Thanksgiving and maybe Christmas.

Either way, you will love it. With the 2 baskets (even in the smaller 4 gallon) you can't hardly keep up with it. It cooks fast!

I am not exaggerating here.....if you fry fish very often, this will be the best purchase you've ever made. We literally cook fish 3x as much now because there is no clean up. I use my peanut oil for 6 full months and I've had absolutely no problem and I could probably go longer if I wanted to. When I drain the oil to throw it out it is cleaner and clearer than peanut oil that has been used and strained 2-3 times in a traditional fish cooker. It's an amazing little invention.

Well I went by cabelas in allen to get one, after the guy on the phone said they had them, but they ont stock them. So off to garland bps and was able to get the last one they had. Ended up with the 4 gallon and I am impressed. I'm defrosting fish tomorrow and gonna put it to work. Do yall leave the oil in it or drain it after every use? I saw them make a lid cover so that will be on order soon.

Another use for used oil, any cooking oil. Instead of throwing it out, bottle it. And take it to feed pigs with. Pour on corn or on trees around a feed sight. They love it! And will bite the trees as well as rub on them. I've done it several times.

If I am going to use it again the next day I will cover the top tightly with foil. Other than that I drain and clean after each fry. Especially if I am frying a lot of fish.

Ok thank you, I fried some squash from the garden and it was pretty good but I just need to learn this cooker. I am going to do some catfish tomorrow night so I will just leave the oil in it tonight and drain tomorrow. From reading the manual it basically says to just leave it in but I'm not comfortable with that.
