I tend to think that if a 3/4 ton can handle what you're hauling, then the gas motor should do just fine. The ones who truly need diesels are driving dually 1 tons.
Heck, set up just right, a half ton ecoboost is rated to tow 11k.
Yep wouldn't bother me at all, we have a 3/4 ton with the 5.4 in it and it does just fine for 3/4 ton rated work. You throw a 6.2 in it and you should be even better off.
Durability is there. Have had them in service trucks in the past. The power is just not there when towing over 5k lbs. From what i've seen this is the issue in all the 3/4ton gassers though. I actually felt like its predecessor, the 5.4 had a little more torque in the exact same setup. It will tow it though, just don't hit raton pass thinking your're gonna go 70mph with a 10k lb camper. Second note, glad i was not paying the fuel on these service trucks as i generally had to fill up twice a day. The inaccurate gauge would constantly read about 5-8mpg with service bed, tools, 100 gal transfer tank, no trailer at that. cclb 4wd
No. For pulling power, diesel is the best choice. It doesn't matter if we are talking pickups, farm tractors, or diesel/electric locomotives. We don't really even have to consider manufacturer. Google diesel vs gasoline engines and read some of the science.
