    Another great book about Indians...

I've about run out of books to read on Comanche's (somewhere between 15 and 20) so I decided to find something I hadn't read about other tribes. In an airport bookstore I saw this one "The Heart of Everything That Is: The Untold Story of Red Cloud" and downloaded it on my e-reader. (it's been out a couple years but I had not heard of it) I just finished it and it's now in my top five books on Native Americans and the Indian wars. I was somewhat familiar with Red Cloud but had never read an in-depth telling of his story. This is a great read, meticulously researched from contemporary diaries, journals and eyewitness accounts. The story of Red Cloud's brutal cunning and strategic genius makes the better-known Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse pale in comparison.

Jerp, if you haven't yet, read up on the Karankawa Indians. Those coastal beasts were some giant, tuff son of guns.. Chewed tar balls to make their teeth white.. They are worth the research.

Is this the same tribe that was supposedly ceremoniously cannibalistic ?

Yeah, that is a tribe I don't know too much about, other than some accounts from early Spanish explorers to the Texas coast. I just remember reading that they were a tall people and really wild. Also one of the first to get wiped out/disappear. I'll check into it - thanks.

Yes they were.. They were only found in 3-4 counties on the Texas coast.. That's it.. Huge in stature and mean.

Check out "The Valley of Two Moons" on Amazon. It's a novel about the Quapaw. Lot of history in it too.
