How far north of the border

I hunt in Falfurrias and think I'm a ways from the border but the only problem is there is a checkpoint outside of town. We happen to have the largest tower with red and blue flashing lights next to our property that the coyotes tell to use as a guiding light. Saw 15 cross last week when I was down.

Seems like some folks get dropped off before the check point on 281 and they seem to be just fine by the time they get to our place. Some others seem to be walking since Mexico because we have had a few folks die on our place offer the years.

Shoot...I had them get in our trailers (not locked) in Callahan county, close to Abilene. They took food, and clothes. Cooked a can of chili on the stove and took a dump in a nonworking comode. We found there discarded clothes about 200 yds away, along with some of the empty can goods. This had happened several years ago a couple of times. No problems since then.

Op, I would not avoid a county because of the traffic. I would however look for a good ranch and when you find one that you really like, visit with the owners of the neighboring property and the local BP office.

The worst I have seen was in brooks county close to 281.
          Best of luck.

We are in Val Verde county near Juno..... (30 miles north of the border) we've seen illegals 1 time in 7 years.

Looking at low fence places, not high fence.
We have them in Victoria Co. I have stopped locking my barn i got sick of them breaking in.

We hunt roughly 30 miles away from the border and we've had one break in to the trailer, the only items stolen were food water and cigarettes. And one time we found a poor guy who I guess fell victim to dehydration. Overall, having these guys coming through isn't that much of an issue

Had a place in Rocksprings for over 20 years. We had illegals for sure but none that caused any problems. We kept the cabin door unlocked. They would generally take any water or canned goods you had and would leave everything else alone. Saw them walking through the property multiple times a year but no serious issues at all

We hunt 7 miles from the river. Never had a problem. Being that close they are usually h*ll bent to get further inland so they do not stop to cause trouble. I do have Border Patrol number in my cell phone and we have BP on property regularly( on trail cameras).

I hunted a ranch west of Cotulla about 5 miles on I think the Hwy is 468 and they had a terrible problem with them. It was a everyday thing on this ranch.this ranch must have been on their travel route because the ranch hand said he was always picking up garbage in the deer stands which they would sleep in so they had to lock them up. He could tell you stories for days about dealing with them. Sad that our POS government wont do anything about it but the democrats have to make sure they have enough voters for election.

One way to think about it: I feel safer hunting Deep South Texas than I do east Texas

I'm in between Rocksprings & Carta Valley and have had a few unfortunate situations with them in the past couple of months. Border Patrol told me, due to Obama, they now have to let them go if they have already found work here.
