You could plant a good white clover/chicory mix in the fall in this plot and it will last well into the late spring/early summer. They will probably keep it mowed down...but that combo grows quickly will just keep on regenerating. It will feed them for much of the antler growing season.

I rechecked my numbers it is 2/3 of acre. That should make a big difference.

Thanks Steve, I will try the white clover and chicory.
I thought I could keep them off for a week or 2. Not working.

I have put in a lot of spring food plots. As soon as they eat the first two leaves of a small soybean or cow peas the plant usually dies. I had one great year with a lot of rain. The rest of the years they just wiped it out. I tried solar electric fences spaced apart and still had game camera photos of the deer in there.

After so many years. I basically went to protein feeders.

Now fall plots of Buck Forage Oats work great. They can't kill the plant by eating it.

Good luck my friend, oh and you never even got to the Grasshopper death squadron stage that comes. That really did me in.

If you could plant 50 acres as farmers do you probably could make it but us little guys can't.

Good Luck, sorry for your loss

This was the one good year. Oh how I wish it could be like that every year.

And here is what it looks like with deer in it and grasshoppers attacking it relentlessly. Electric fence did not stop them. This was the design that Gallagher researched. My deer did not read the research paper that said keep out. LOL

Sure looks like the fence should work, but I have learned not much will keep them out. I will keep mine wet to see if the tender plants will come back. Thanks for sharing. I sure don't need grasshoppers.
