The pen where we put the goats when they aren't out during the day.

Wife loves that there is an area with some trees so she took several pics of a few of them.

This is where the trees stop and it turned into scrub oak. We are leaving some trees hoping that over the next 5-10 years they will grow up now that the stuff around them is cleaned up.

So here is the plan for tomorrow. I am going to start staking low spots and marking where they are level with the road. I will then use the box blade to start breaking down the high spots to fill the low spots. Does this sound right? Should the yard as a whole stay pretty much level with the road? There will still be some low spots up towards the road where we do not plan to clear so drainage for that is going to have to be thought about.

If you could afford a small dozer for about 4 hours it would level it with ease. A lot easier than with a box blade. Most dozer operators will charge about $500 for a 4 hour job. I learned that the hard way.

Great looking place too. Best of luck with your build.

I might have to look into renting one and see what I can do. Thanks for the idea.

Renting is $600 for 4 hours. I know a local guy who charges $125 an hour, so might as well have him do the work.

Culvert was put in today. Had to go back with the tractor and knock down a little hill next to the ditch. Slowly but surely. Pics uploaded soon.

A month later and not much to report right now. Working on lining up a dozer to go ahead and level, then electric and well.

Congrats man, looks great, and nothing like growing up with some land as a kid. 5 acres is going to feel like a hundred.

                          Thanks!

Meet with a contractor this morning, a friend of mine so hopefully I get the buddy price. We are doing some leveling, probably a half acre. Going to go ahead and clear out root ball where house will eventually go and dig a pond in back to build it up.

I asked when we went to leave what I was looking at. I just needed to know were we talking $2500 type work or $10,000 type work? Said somewhere in the middle. Never realized it would cost so much to move the small piece of earth I own!!

                            Glad to see the progress.

Any snakes or critters encountered to date?

Met the guy who is doing some leveling for us this morning. He will be out there later today. Probably won't be home in time to get any pics unless my wife stops by to send me some. Hopefully I can get some pics uploaded tomorrow morning.
