Loosing weight is 80% diet. My wife is a beach body coach. Last May I started drinking shakeology for lunch. No more Whataburger for lunch. I was eating there 3 to 4 times a week. I'm down 25 pounds. Lots more energy, and I haven't been sick. You get what you put into it. Vegetables at every dinner and no processed food. Cut out bread, noodles and fat.

Essentially create an identity (who I want to be), live out actions that are true to that identity, thus change the way I feel.
I started eating better a month or so ago, but I've not been committed in a balanced way. I've lost some of the extra pounds, but I've been too lenient on the weekends. I've had cheat weekends instead of meals!
I've start back Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at least 2x's per week. Next step is to approach my neighbor who is a power lifter and ask if he will mentor me in lifting.
I'll follow the path for each of my silos.
As for drinks, have you ever had coconut water? I love it, especially those accented with pineapple or other touch of fruit. It's got more electrolytes than Gatorade and about half the carbs. Coconut water has been used to replace blood plasma IV's in war zones when supplies were unavailable.

And sorry for the typos in the 1st post. Maybe I should add "master English" as a silo and have my high school English teacher as my mentor!

There may be something to coconut water, but in limited amounts. I'm pretty sure there's a sugar content to it. When I lived on Guam we used to "tap" the coconut trees. Not enough space to explain it, but we'd catch the "water" before it became coconuts. It would come out in drips and in the hot sun would ferment and turn to alcohol so there had to be a sugar content. Once it was contained in a green coconut it was also a great thirst reliever while in the jungle. Take a green coconut, lop off the end and drink. Instant island water supply.

I grew up in Hawaii and yes coconut water is one of the greatest things out there. I like plain so the 2 for 1 cans at places like sprouts are good but if you need flavor w/o added sugar look at Zico. Their chocolate is really good.
People say cut out fats but that isn’t correct. Healthy fats like avocados, nuts etc are very important if you are looking at losing weight and getting your body to perform optimally

Yes coconut water has sugar, but it's less than Gatorade. C-water has about 1.25 g/ fluid oz, where Gatorade has 1.75. But the mineral composite is where c water really shines. It has 65% more potassium, plus calcium, phosphorous and magnesium and less sodium. Gatorade doesn't have measurable amounts of calcium, phosphorous or magnesium.

I love food. I love food to excess. I am addicted to that feeling of being stuffed after a gluttonous meal and it unfortunately took a bad toll on me. I was 5'7" and nearly 300 lbs. I yo-yo dieted for years and finally what it took was a fundamental shift in the way I looked at my health. Instead of looking at losing weight and getting healthy as some short-term dragon I had to slay I looked at it like a long term project. I also had to square with myself that I had a real addiction and it needed to be managed like an addiction.
In January of 2013 I downloaded MyFitnessPal, bought a food scale and started measuring and tracking everything I ate (remember...we're doing a science project here!) I started exercising some...not a lot because in a calorie deficit I didn't have a lot of energy "in the tank". 11 months I tracked everything and did not deviate from my project goals...in 11 months I dropped 110 pounds (losing roughly 2.5 lbs per week with no plateau). I had reached my first milestone which was to get down to a manageable healthy weight (175 lbs). The work wasn't done though...remember...LOOOONG term project.
I continued tracking everyday and have been tracking everyday since. Today is day 1204-in-a-row on MyFitnessPal and now I look at that number like a trophy. That is how many days I have taken control of my eating and health. Sure I have some splurge days every now and then and still love to drink the occasional beer but I now exercise 6-7 days/week because I've come to enjoy it and it allows me to eat just a little bit more and maintain. In the last 3 years I've managed to keep my weight within 3-5 lbs of where I stopped and I would like to maintain that indefinitely. The motivation is different for everyone and no one can tell you to lose weight...that is a decision you'll have to make on your own. There's a lot of great tips & advice on this site for how to do it and if you want to discuss my strategy & philosophy feel free to PM. I wish you the best of luck on your new project!

Run a marathon, you burn like 1000 calories an hour in the training. At least once a week I was running for two hours, you can pretty much eat the buffet table after that
I also tried my fitness pal, I stuck with it for two months and the weight was coming off. I had trouble keeping with it but it was working

I am 62 and have run 15 miles per week for 36 years and always had a running buddy - for me that is huge for any long term working out and being able to stick to it. Find someone else and you then hold each other accountable.
I also learned that for weight it is not as much what you eat but how much you eat. I am about 50-50 on my meals - some good and some bad. But I never overeat and never go back for seconds. Has kept my weight in line (along with the running) - good luck to you in your quest

Check out Mark Sisson's website called marksdailyapple.com. For me it was life changing. Tons of free info there. Look at the before and after pictures of some who are eating clean. Vitality/health for most can be very simple, but you must be willing to change from what your government told you were healthy ways to eat.

Only way I can keep at it is a competition. My brother and I normally do a comp. once every other year. Wasnt good enough. I would bust my tail for 3 to 4 months til the end and once it was over I would go back to my unhealthy ways. This time we are doing a continuous competition with a weigh in every 4 months with a big pay out. We do biggest percentage body fat lost and muscle mass gained. If we split the two categories tie breaker goes to who won their category by the biggest percentage.
