I've got some major goals set for this year and I've been slacking. With that said ( I know a few other threads have been started) I'm starting this thread for personal motivation and to help motivate others. Starting this Monday I'm getring back on the healthy track. I'd like to see other people's results and how you achieved them. I've Gained about 25 pounds and it's taking a a toll on me I've lost a lot of drive and starting to get tired threw out the day even if I get 7+ hours of sleep. I work out 3 times a day and run close to 15 miles a week, but eat like crap atleast one Redbull a day. I would also like some ideas on healthy drinks. I drink a lot threw out the day and really hate drinking water. I have coast trip plan this weekend so wanna get that out of the way and start strong on minday. Stay tuned as I plan on posting my work out schedule also a full menu of what I plan on eating threw out the week

Exercise by itself ain't gonna do it. Calories expended per hour of exercise, do the math. Calories in, calories out. Once again, do the math. End result, do not eat so many high calorie goods. Some is o.k. just not too much. Avoid all the fad stuff. Won't work for long. You won't stick with it. Like it or not, water is your friend. Eat good but not excessively is the key. Stay away from alcohol. Not because of the calories, but because it makes you hungry. Don't know about energy drinks, but if they have sugar, bad idea. Caffeine, good idea, ups your metabolism.

In general, I've cut a lot of carbs & refined sugars. I increased my protein, fiber (nuts, PB, fruit, vegetables). Eat healthier meats such as chicken & fish. You really need lots of water which helps with metabolism & keeps you hydrated especially if you up protein. I focused more on moderate cardio (75 min/wk) & core, stability ball crunches, push-ups, lunges with Dumbbells. Fast interval nonstop reps for me. I felt pretty good at 42 with good energy. I've slacked here lately though. Need to get back to it

If you hate water you could make a pitcher of unsweet green tea every night and drink it the next day as a option, no calories, essentially water with some flavor- ( possibly some other benefits as well), or do a pitcher of lemon water each night- cut and squeeze maybe 3 or 4 lemons in the pitcher and chill over night. You've got to have the water but there are several options to give it some flavor with no calories. These guys were absolutely right- it's all about a calorie deficit. Burn more than you take in you lose weight, what you drink throughout the day can be one of your biggest "hidden calorie" add ins. I would recommend downloading my fitness pal (free app) and meticulously keeping track of calories for a week and adjust from there. It can be shocking how many you are really taking in if your not really planning and fully aware of how many calories different foods really have.

Simply put right here and very good advice. Treat your body just like you would any other machine, put good in, get good out. Try to cut out processed foods. Sometimes they're the only option but limit them as much as possible. Stick to whole foods and your body will feel way better. Eggs, meat, fish, nuts, fruits, veggies, you get the idea. Just remember being healthy is a lifestyle not a "90 day fix". Find something you can stick to long term and you'll have better success keeping the physique you want. Best of luck to you buddy.

I'm beginning to explore a full renovation of my life, because I'm generally discontent with it. I'm thinking of life as various silos, such as spiritual, family, health/fitness, Jiu Jitsu, & business. Next I'm going to identify a "mentor" or model for each of the silos and begin to diligent process to study the virtues and habits of these mentors in an effort to develop who I want to be in each area.
Essentially create an identity (who I want to be), live out actions that are true to that identity, thus change the way I feel.
I started eating better a month or so ago, but I've not been committed in a balanced way. I've lost some of the extra pounds, but I've been too lenient on the weekends. I've had cheat weekends instead of meals!
I've start back Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at least 2x's per week. Next step is to approach my neighbor who is a power lifter and ask if he will mentor me in lifting.
I'll follow the path for each of my silos.
As for drinks, have you ever had coconut water? I love it, especially those accented with pineapple or other touch of fruit. It's got more electrolytes than Gatorade and about half the carbs. Coconut water has been used to replace blood plasma IV's in war zones when supplies were unavailable.Last edited by Playa; 04-18-2016, 09:38 PM.
