Bug out/bug in bag why or why not

So I've been toying with the idea of putting together a bug in/bug out bag and or a survival kit or 2 for each vehicle. However I'm having a tough time visualizing a situation where I would ever actually need one.

I live in small town USA. The idea of civil unrest seems very distant to me. I just don't see angry mobs marching down the streets of my rural community of 2800 people.

Maybe I'm missing something? Convince me

I wouldn't make a bag, just get a good food/water/supply cache going.. you don't need to escape, just live

All Chevy owners need a bag... Never know when you will be walking or how far

I don't feel the need for one in my small town either, nor am I under the impression I could change the outcome of my life with one... Just my view. I don't carry either for the same reason.... And I'm waaayyy to hot tempered ( serious, and I know I'd be worse with one )

Im too old and too fat to run anywhere.
I have stock piled food, ammo, water and more ammo
Im not saying the savages could never reach me, just figure it will take them a long time to find me way out here

In your case, it's the people coming to your area in a crisis.

I think in your situation may be a better idea to have supplies on hand then in a bug out bag. Though do keep in mind there are many reason you may need to leave. Depending where your located natural disaster are one, and then it won't matter big city or little town....both can get hit hard.

think natural disaster moreso than civil unrest. tornado, flood, high winds. snow.

What is the closest big city to you? How many of those folks do you think will leave the big city to go to a quieter place with resources, such as yours? Now answer this...how many of those will be hostile/non-hostile and how far will they be willing to go to take what is yours? It's basic human nature, take what you can and do whatever it takes to survive.

In any situation, your biggest enemy will be those that were ill prepared as they race to become prepared post incident.

Being in the suburbs of DFW but without anyplace to go I guess bug in would be my only option.

Everyone needs a big out bag. One breakdown on the side of the road in the middle of summer or winter and you will be wishing you had some basic supplies in your vehicle.

But out bags are not just for civil disturbances. They are great for everyday problems that pop up unexpectedly at the worst possible time.

Do you ever watch The Walking Dead? As the show has evolved they don't "worry" about the zombies because they are predictable, people, not so much. If the Electric Grid were to go down for even a few days, people will begin to panic and in most cases in need of food and water. 90%+ (I'm guessing) of people have no idea how to survive if they can't flip on a light switch or go to the grocery store or fast food. Panicking, desperate people are some of the most dangerous to encounter and, in your case, that is what you should prep for.

Just this past December we had a winter storm that pretty much shut things down for about five days. I ran up to the grocery stores just to check them out and they were depleted of most everything worth needing. Dependent on clear roads to restock.

Been part of ice storms, and natural gas outages as well that caused issues.

Just for weather events alone it is good to have a resource that you can depend on for a few days as needed weather your staying in or your mobile.

You do, what you think is right..........
But, I've always been of the mind......
I'd rather have it,.....and not need it.........
Than need it,......and not have it.......
