I have kids and grandkids who aren't going to be able to "bug out". Here in the metro mess it will definitely be messy. I have over 14,000 gallons of stored water, a generator and fuel I rotate through regularly to keep it fresh. Plenty of dehydrated, long term stored food and the means to keep what is mine. They know to gather here and expect to suffer a bit to make it through a rough time.

As far as ISIS or what ever jihadi group will cause us a significant harm I believe it will be limited. I think the bigger threat is our socialist leaders and them selling out our sovereignty to the UN. And you can count on it being after we've been kicked hard in the knads by something big.

But out bags are not just for civil disturbances. They are great for everyday problems that pop up unexpectedly at the worst possible time.

I don't have a single thing ready for a bug out bag. If things got bad enough I'm packing my bags(non bug out) and heading to an area that's not bugging out where my family is. If for some reason I can't leave Baton Rouge I'll go to the pond out front and boil water to drink and eat my neighbors pets. There's enough cats around here to feed me, my wife and you for a month. If an end of the world type scenario happens then you can just come over and we can finish out my month supply of beer and shoot my 10,000 rounds of ammo at the zombies from the roof.

Oh and cats are pretty tasty seasoned with Ragin Blaze.

You assume your cell phone will always be there and will always work. Just a few months ago there was major cell phone outtages in large areas. One covered most of east texas.

It is bad planning to rely on one item in a time of need. If that one item is forgotten, or doesn't work then you are in a seriously bad situation. just like the people in the D/FW area that know only one set of roads to get from point a to point b. When traffic has roads closed, they get lost because they never planned to go any other way.

Trying to use a cell phone during a major event is a joke, the towers are overwhelmed and you can't get through. Both hurricanes Rita and Ike were that way. Then once they passed the cell towers weren't standing. Dont count on a cell phone.

If something real happens, unless you are WAYYY out in the middle of nowhere, there will nothing to shoot or catch to eat within a few months

Yep. And for those of us that were just without electricity for a week or 2 during Ike, that was nothing. Just a minor inconvenience compared to how it would be if something widespread and real happened.
