Get a Collins...World War II vintage. I use mine all the time. Easy to sharpen and stays sharp.

They're not cheap but it will out last you, your kids and theirs if taken care of.

Here's one...they're getting harder to find.

I researched the heck out of this not too long ago, and ended up with Esee brand with 18" blade and micarta handle.

My trusty Gerber works just fine. I took a grinder to mine to give the blade an edge.

Best part is they are made in the U.S.A.

My uncle gave me a section of antique tempered band saw blade. Had my father-in-law cut it out with a torch and then uncle and cousin gave me advice and helped on assembly. Made in garage city, USA! Sheath made from a piece of 4" fire hose. Made to last a lifetime x10.

Don't get one from Harbor Freight. I bought one and that sucker bent on the first swing.

Get an Ontario. 3" trees go down with one wack. You can get them shaving sharp and they hold an edge. About the only real machete you can buy here and I'd say the best for the money you can get. Should have a big US stamped right above the grip.

My dad used to on mission trips to Honduras. He would bring back machetes all the time I still have a few of them that's been is service for 15 plus years. Not sure the brand, but possibly same type as the ones coming from Columbia. I've watched Hondurans pill organges with them quicker than I could with a pocket knife.

Whatever you do buy a 22" length....it out performs an 18" blade significantly cutting saplings and bigger stuff.

The last one I bought is a Gerber. It's a POS. Don't buy one.

I have a condor bolo machete, it performs better than expected and is thick, not flimsy and bendable. I bought a Gerber and it bent on the 2nd swing, this condor cut the whole batch of trees. I have the 18".https://www.google.com/search?q=cond...CsjKmwGJ8J_QDA
