Heading to SPI and want to do some fishing

There is a pier right where the causeway hits the island.

I've seen it but never fished it. Looks like a good spot to try as well.

Weekend fishing sucks, to help honest. Too many people out there. What you can do, go out to the beach, past the condos, and chunk out some shrimp. You'll get something for sure.

I've never caught anything other than small trout from Pirates Landing. Never tried the pier on the Island though.

Arrived at SPI last night and was up by 5am to go get live bait. Tide was too strong and my bait kept getting stolen. Decided to use a silver spoon and I hooked something big!


Tried to tire it out but he had other plans. Took a lot of my 20lb. braided line.


His last run was too much for the little reel.


Took all my line and it snapped like sewing thread. Wished I had seen what it was.

I went all the way down to beach access #6 before the crowds began to arrive.

It felt more like a red than a jack.
