Heading to SPI and want to do some fishing

I am heading to SPI next weekend and wanted to see take my kids fishing in either the jetties, pier or maybe even the beach.
Any recommendations on what to use (live bait or lures) and what is biting and where?

I heard they were tearing up the sheepshead on fishbites ...on the jetties.

Might be a little late for the really big sheepshead runs, but should still be able to catch some off the jetties. My dad's been killing them, but said they've been harder to catch if you're not fishing at the tip.

Live shrimp either on the bottom or use a popping cork and set the hook about 3 ft down from the bobber.

Not looking to fill up an ice chest, just want to get some lines wet and maybe get a hook on a variety of fish for fun.

Weekend fishing sucks, to help honest. Too many people out there. What you can do, go out to the beach, past the condos, and chunk out some shrimp. You'll get something for sure.

Like said right above me, just fish between the condos/hotels in the surf. Don't surf fish from isla Blanca park from the beach cuz there's way too many ppl there on weekends.

Access 5 and 6 can get pretty loaded on the weekends right now too.

Depending on where you're staying, if I were you, if just get up early and walk to beach or drive to beach access along gulf Blvd and do some fishing before ppl start hitting the beaches.

We are staying at the Comfort Suites on Padre Blvd.

Can you point out the places you are talking about on google maps so I get an idea of where to go?

Surf fishing changes by the day. You just drive the beach, find a spot you like and cast out. Early morning would be a good time to hit the jetties at the park

There is a pier right where the causeway hits the island.

Best bet would probably take a fishing trip in the bay. There is a smallish party boat that also sees dolphins. Family fun.

I've been on that boat and my kids didn't like it. I'll probably try my luck at the beach in the morning and pier in the evening.
