Good post Bill, that had slipped my mind.

Anyone know bzzboyz? Not sure if his sportster sold. Sent him a PM but doesn't look like he gets on much.

Yes it does have a bit of work done to it but it is a naturally aspirated engine.
Punched out to 90 ci and some fancy head work/cams.
My crotch rocket makes over 200 hp to the tire, and the motor is box stock, 2012 ZX14r, 1441cc engine, also weigh less the a 883cc Skirtster. Todays 1000cc crotch rockets make well over 150 horsepower and weigh 100 less than an 883.

my .02. You can get a bike that is not a Harley for a fraction of the price. I had not had a bike in many years and decided I wanted one. I started looking and realized how much cheaper other brands were. I bought a Honda VTX 1300 for 4500, it had 13,000 miles on it. Now a few years later it has twice that. It has been from texas to Sturgis once, many trips to NE Arkansas. Right now I am on my want home from Daytona Beach. Never had an issue with it. I do sort of wish I had bought an 1800, but I thought that 1300 would be enough for anyone.... Sort of like that first computer I bought that had 40 mb hard drive, how could I ever want more....but I digress...lol

If you are dead set on a Harley, I understand, a lot of people are. But if cost are an issue, other brands have good value. I am seriously considering selling mine for very close to I paid for it and getting a Harley....but then I ask myself if those $$$ are better off in my bank account or some elses....lol

I'm in the same boat as OP. We're about the same size (5' 8", 155) and 23 years ago, my sophomore year in college I had a Honda Rebel 250 for about a year.

I rode a friend's 2009 HD XR1200 a week ago and it was awesome but also put some fear in guy who hasn't ridden in a long time. I think an 883 Sportster is a fine beginner bike to gain experience on. I'll be taking the MSF course since my license has lapsed.
