Just got a call that made my stomach turn...

I have not been around much as we are in full stride hunting up here and I am usually only home for a few hours each week to repack gear and supplies and head back up. Between that and my computer totally being effed, I have not been on the Green Screen or accessible by email.

I took today off to catch up on paperwork, do a few things that needed urgent attention, and get my self squared away.

While going through bills just now and trying to find replacement hunters for our third season (we had several cancel) I just got a call from high country camp that made my stomach turn.

400 lb. Cinammon bear, bad hit, ****** off, please come help sort him out. Of all the calls I did not want this morning, that ranks right below a person was injured. I told my guys to hold off for an hour or so and see what happens. Hopefully he will lay up and die. In the meantime, I am getting my "dont eat me" gear together (870 full of buckshot, carhart coat and bibs, welding gloves) and waiting for the "we need you to come up here" call.

Cross your fingers that he lays up and dies as I am NOT lloking forward to sorting out a big, poorly hit bear in the oakbrush in this rainy mist we have today!

Sorry, just had to vent. These are the times that make me second guess giving up a cozy office job!

Good luck bud, these are the stories you'll be telling around campfires and at bedtime for the rest of your life...

I vote you give him 24 hours! It's not worth the chance. Be careful!

Problem is that he was shot a good while ago, so giving him another hour, plus the time it will take me to get up the pack trail (almost two hours once I leave the house) will give him 4-5 hours since the shot. With the misting rain and sleet we are having, much more than that will result in a lost blood trail and guarantee a lost animal. Fun times!

If it is cold out, I vote for this.
