    Show Broilers

Anyone have ideas on how to keep them up and moving around? I have read where some put rabbits in with them, also heard but have not seen one yet where you can build a pusher that is on a timer that somehow pushes / sweeps them around in the coop.

LIghts on a timer and keeping the kids in the pen to keep them up and eating.

Lights on a timer and alarm clock.

When my daughter was in FFA there was a family that always won broilers. They had a Grandfather with insomnia that rousted the chickens every few hours all night.

Lights on 24/7 and walking them as much as possible. Anything you put in there they will eventually get used to and ignore it.

We have had lights on and radio blaring in the past, but getting them up and moving while at work / school is what im after, ours in the past became imune to lights and alarms after about a week.

                Broilers

here is an old thread with some broiler information.

We have been raising broilers for 7 years and have experienced several successful shows and some shows that make you question your sanity. We have tried the rabbit in the pen, a mature hen in the pen, even a put a guinea fowl in there(that was crazy). I can tell you that nothing works as good a you and your kids going out with a broom to move them around. I get out there before work at 5:30am, the kids go out before school and again as soon as they get home. They go again around 5pm for feeding. Usually I go at 7ish and then just before bed around 10ish. Our show season in Louisiana usually runs 42-49 days. It is a VERY INTENSE and TIRING show season. I have tried the Oasis for a few years, but I cant tell you if it helps or not. It is hard to get. The last bag I bought was 3 years ago and it came from Walker Co. Feed in Huntsville. As far as feed goes, my dad has a feed store and is a Purina dealer so I have used their feed for 6 of the 7 years. This year I rebelled and started using a different brand that seems to be working better than the new Purina feed menu. For most of the I have learned that the successful show broiler families are very tight lipped, but there are a few that don't mind helping young kids out. If you have any questions PM me and I will try to answer. Also, if you have any special secrets I would like to hear them. Good Luck!!!

Nothing works like running up there and walking around the coop to get them moving. When I did broilers I was up at the Ag barn more than I was at home/girlfriends house/school.

Also had a nice mix of bacon grease, b-12 and electrolytes that I mixed in with their food and they loved it, ate it around the clock. Not 100% sure if this would work for you but I ended up taking grand champion the year I showed broilers. That check paid for my first semester of college

Nothing beats walking into the coop to stir them, but if you need something overnight once in a while, a ceiling fan on a timer with some kind of streamers hanging from them. Make sure the fan is on low, just enough to stir them around good. When they get used to this, pie plate and a striker attached to the blades. Alternate every few weeks.

Try Double Down as the supplement, it works soooo well adding inches to deer, its gotta grow a B/C chicken. Lol
