    House vs barndominium

We are about ready to start building on our land in East Texas. Please give your opinions on which option, in your opinion would be better and why. I don't need a lot of shop space as I already built a shop/barn on it. We want 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. Cost is still up in the air until we see what is available but we would like to keep it somewhere around 100K or less. This will not be our full time residence. Thanks in advance for your valuable time.

House just in case you ever have to sell. Barndo is extremely difficult to get financing on

Barndo is going to be closer to your budget. I feel your going to be pressed on budget.

just be sure you have cash to pay bc few institutions will finance this bc of lack of reasonable comps etc... and be ready for future buyers to be extremely limited unless they have cash in hand as they will run into the same problem. I have a family member that is regional mgr for a large credit union and he wont touch em.

Yes sir. Rockne to be specific. Total footprint right at 3000 sq ft. 2000 living, 650 shop, and 350 porch. Excited to get started. Might start a building thread on it!

Please do. I'm thinking about building one in a year or two.

I've heard that the Barndominium style is also more difficult to insure, but that's still what I plan to do one day. I think they are awesome.

I agree. Please do. Many of us dream of doing this. You could probably get some work out of us also.

Good deal. Ill be happy to do such if it helps others out. I'm GC'ing the build, (my first) so I'll have plenty of do's and don't through the process.

I'm a home builder but I'd like to build a 60x100 barn with 20' walls on one half of it. Finish out that half 2 stories tall with 10' ceilings throughout. Maybe have a little taller ceilings in the living room. Have about 5000 sqft of living and a 3000 sqft shop. It would be sweet.

Capital Farm Credit will finance them no problem. FYI.
