Frustration with the State, particularly in my county

I have a neighbor that lets anywhere from 10-12 people hunt on a total of about 36 acres that is split into two tracts.

This morning as I was leaving my place I heard a shot on the 21 acres of this property and saw foot prints in the wet road. I called the neighbor's house and the person that answered told me it was a friend hunting "Youth weekend". I had confirmed a few days ago that youth weekend is the 20-21st, next weekend. The neighbor's gator tracks were in the road when I got back home so I know something was shot.

I called a home number for the game warden which was disconnected, understandable. My wife then tried to find a number in the phone book, not there. She calls the sheriff's office and they won't give out the number but will have him call me. It's been a little over an hour and I haven't heard from him. They will have hightailed it by the time I do.

What good does it do for law abiding citizens to try and help the GW? I'm not only frustrated, I'm PO'd too!

Well they gutted it somewhere and I bet the owner will give up the name and hunter before he goes to jail over it. Just have the game warden go over there. Sorry, I know how that feels

OGT is the next best choice. The Sherriff has a pager number for the GW. You could also call the main office for your area and see if they get him quicker or know if he's working another case right now that is more important, it has been raining a bunch and might be working a flooded area or something like that. Good Luck and thanks for looking out.

The owner is out of town and the "hunter/hunters" have left. Not much I can do now.

Aren't we still in the doe/spike late season? Unless he killed an illegal buck no laws have been broken I believe. I am not sure of the laws that regard a youth hunting with out an adult.

Still report it, Bill. The sherriff in our county should be our first call and if the warden can't come out, they should.

The other day, the warden gave me his cell phone number! Someone else asked me for it and I said no, he trusted me with it, but I'll give you the number on his card.

I may be mistaken Brandon but I don't believe North Zulch has a late doe/spike season. I haven't hunted in that area in a couple of years, but I don't know if the regs have changed.

We do have a youth weekend and it is next weekend with special Thanksgiving weekend requirements in place.

I'm going to report it if I hear back. I'm not calling the sheriff back this late in the game.

Is that Madison County?? I just looked it up and there is no open season right now. I'd call Operation Game Thief! 1-800-792-4263
and report it. Game wardens are pretty good investigators.

Just figure they were probably illegals so they weren't goning to do anything anyway!
