You shouldn't have any issues fitting a 16 foot boat in a 20 foot garage. I personally would run shorter that 18 if you plan on having kids in the boat. Casting room runs out quick. Dipping minnows over the side is one thing but 8 year Olds and rattle traps are a different story. Been there done that

There's no such thing as the do all boat. I've had 15 foot tiller steers, 19 foot bass boats and CCs from 17 foot to current 21.

Maybe on an inboard boat but a Jon Boat with an outboard engine will require boat title, engine title & trailer title.

Another vote for boatright marine boats. Sea ark would be next and then I think Express.

The difference for me is that Boatright doesn't see how cheap they can build a hull, they design and build it to last, period. I'm not saying other builders don't design a good hull, but the Boatright is overbuilt to last, your grandson will be piloting it someday.

There are many one-off custom builders around that do quality work as well, you just gotta scare 'em up sometimes.

Wrong, in Texas a trailer under 4,000# does not require a title.
A jon boat trailer will not be rated over 4k.

I have a title on my 14' flatbottom.
I have a title on the outboard.
I do NOT have a title on the trailer.

You can get a title if you so desire, but it is not required.
A bill of sale is all you need to get it registered.

Correct! Just transfer the trailer registration at the local tax office.

I would go with an open hull design and a tiller steer. More room inside the boat if your bringing the family out. Also, I wouldn't go any less than a 52" bottom. If you can find an 18' boat in your price range I'd go with that. I have a 18x54 and I love the size.

As far as boat manufacturer, the Boatrights and some of the others are great but they will cost you. Look for a used Alweld or Southfork or something of the like. They are going to be more of your style if you are on a budget.

                        1. Who in your opinion makes the best jon boat and why?

Allweld - compare its hull design to others.

                        2. What should I look for in terms of a "family boat" if possible with jon boat?

For you, your wife, and 1 kiddo I'd say a 16' minimum, so look for one with steering

                        3. What should I look for when/if buying a used jon boat?

Clear title, get the engine checked out for good compression, and take for a ride (1 or 2 hours). See how it rides and if there are any leaks.

                        4. Is a title required for the boat, motor, and trailer?

Yes, and you want a clear title. No sale receipt or anything else. If the engine is old, there will be no title. I'd probably not want to buy that rig unless I knew the person and trusted their maintenance.

                        5. Are any of yall selling a minimum of 16 foot jon boat that can post pics?

Nope, but I've seen these in craigslist ranging from $2500 to $7K

When setting your budget, remember you have other items to get, such as fire extinguisher (never seen a used boat with a current\non-expired one), life jackets, throw-able cushion, etc.

                        6. Who installs hitches/wiring harnesses around College Station/Brazos county?

                        Check with local U-haul.

This is my 18' Weld-Craft with 90hp Etec. It hauls my family of 5 around just fine. New they run around $26K with an aluminum trailer. Used they will run you around $13K depending on the year.

This is my flounder guide buddies new 20' custom boat powered by a 150 Mercury. Its completely custom. He's got around $45K in it.

Those boats are really nice. This is the reason I come here and pick the TBH's brain. The amount of knowledge I glean from here daily astounds me. Not being corny, but truthful.
