I'm not a fan of the IRS either. I hate messing with the boots on the CV shafts. Twice more things to maintain. Solid axle is more stout IMO and won't squat as much with a trailer or load on the back rack.

Kawasaki has front differential issues on their higher power machines. Kawasaki makes a better small cc engine in my opinion.

A lot of hours to me is 250+.

        Honda

Get a clean '98-05 w/manual shift. Great engine sizes range from 300-500. Replace all worn parts and detail it.

        Best value out there.

BTW, Anyone here have a clean Fourtrax they want to sell?

Look at the Polaris 500 HO in about 2005-2010 model. I just sold mine and upgraded to a new CanAm but for what you are wanting to do, it us definitely a workhorse.

500cc is usually the dividing line for the larger 4 wheelers?

I also see no one mentioned Kawasaki. The specs on the "brute force" look good.
I sold my 03 honda rubicon in 2009 with something like 3200 miles on it. One seal on the rear end was all the work I did other than oil changes. It even had the original battery in it. The guy who bought it still has it

IMO when lookin at IRS theres pros and cons. The pro is obviously the ride. However when you load them down they tend to squat and you loose ground clearance. For a work horse straight rear axle and shaft drive is where its at

If it were me Id be looking for a rubicon or a rincon. And I currently own a polaris

I have owned several Honda 300 fourtraxs. IMO and I'm sure quite a few others it's the best bike ever made. Perfect size and they just don't stop.

                Thanks for all the input!

I have been looking on TBH for a little while and have not seen anything that is saying "buy me".
I hate to go look somewhere else because everything I buy on the green screen has been exactly as advertised.

no doubt, my parents bought me a new one in 1993, other than oil changes we never had to do a thing to it. I sold it to my buddy in 2003 and he still uses it to this day, and wont sell it back to me

I have a 2006 350 fourtrax now that was rode hard before and after I bought it a few years ago...you cant kill'em...

From the description of your 'wants' I'd say Honda Rincon. But from the description of what you want to pay, I'd say Honda Rancher.
