I can't disagree with any of the suggestions so far.
Personally, I'd stay at the Domain or Arboretum area unless you like the downtown bar scene. Domain and Arboretum have shops and restaurants for all different kinds of tastes. Touring the Capital building and Bob Bullock Texas history museum are both totally worth it. Maybe try Alamo Drafthouse for a movie if that floats your boat.
For food, Moonshine is good, but it used to be better. Swift's Attic or Foreign and Domestic are both great. Uchi or Uchiko are also good choices.
