I can't disagree with any of the suggestions so far.

Personally, I'd stay at the Domain or Arboretum area unless you like the downtown bar scene. Domain and Arboretum have shops and restaurants for all different kinds of tastes. Touring the Capital building and Bob Bullock Texas history museum are both totally worth it. Maybe try Alamo Drafthouse for a movie if that floats your boat.

For food, Moonshine is good, but it used to be better. Swift's Attic or Foreign and Domestic are both great. Uchi or Uchiko are also good choices.

My wife and I are more Tex-Mex type folks so we hit up taco joints. Here's a few good lists I found on Texas Monthly http://www.texasmonthly.com/120-texa...efore-you-die/

    Y'all have fun!

          When in doubt, go West.

If she likes to shop in antique and what-not stores, take her to Wimberley--

Stay at the Hyatt on Lake Austin. Get with the boat company that will rent you an electric boat behind the Hyatt. Get with them to cater you a meal for two. Best advice I can give. Other than that it is bars and live music.

If staying near the domain, catch a movie at ipic and pay the extra for the good seats.
