A question for you folks around Austin

The wife wants to take a weekend trip to Austin, not my first choice but she works hard and puts up with me. What are some things to do around town, not doing the bar thing. What's the best part of town to stay in and some good places to eat. Thanks for the info.

I've lived here my whole life. Hoping someone tells you something so I can take my wife out and do something other than eating out and a movie.

      Wimberley/San Marcos/New Braunfels/Lockhart.

Austin is way better than Dallas or Houston but it is still too dang crowded.

Depending on interest there are a variety of places to go, mount Bonnel, camp Mabry museum, several other museums and people watch along town lake. Lots of food trucks and restaurants to many to mention. Mc Kinney falls park is on the edge of town and has some nice trails. A drive with nice views is the devils backbone. In the area are some nice smaller towns.
Lockhart is the Texas BBQ capital.

Took the wife on a date night in Austin a couple months back went to Moonshine café and then took her to Ester's Follies. We had a great time. Tickets aren't to bad either

Barton Springs with dinner afterwards at one of the many restaurants along Barton Spring Rd., Mt Bonnell, Hill Country drive. Visit all of the small towns within 50 miles of Austin, BBQ in Lockhart or Elgin. Bob Bullock State Museum, LBJ museum, catch a Texas Longhorn baseball or basketball game, etc. Tons to do!!

A lot of great ideas. Since no one has mentioned it, take a tour of the Capitol.

I would stay off 360 someplace. Very nice out that way. Lots of very nice places to eat out that way. Can be in down town in under 20 minutes. Or the Arboretum/ Domain area in NW austin... Not a fan of any other part of Austin.

                            X2.

I would probably find a nice house on either Travis or Lake Austin them go somewhere from there.

My wife and I stayed at the Lone Star Court in the Domain. It's a new, really cool hotel with a ranch-feel to it. It's also in the Domain so you can walk to restaurants, movie's, shops, etc. I recommend it.
